Shri Nitin Gadkari, BJP President visited PPDMS on March 24, 2010, to see a presentation on Solar Power.
Shri Prabhakar Kukde, a well known figure in Power Sector and C.E.O. of PPDMS made the presentation. He explained the role being played by PPDMS in guiding power project of various types like Thermal, Bio-gas, Co-Generation, and Solar Power. He introduced his team of experienced directors, Shri Anil Palamwar, Shri Arvind Deshpande, Shri Mukund Tare and Vaishali Kukde, who hardly need an introduction in the power sector.
Shri Prabhakar Kukde explained the earlier promotional efforts of Government of India (GOI) through the MNRES and the latest policy of the SOLAR Mission. He also reviewed the Solar Tariff determination norms fixed by C.E.R.C. recently to promote solar power. He stressed the need to harness the free and abundantly available Solar Power. The importance of reducing emission of Green House Gases was explained. While generating solar power the Clean Development Mechanism (C.D.M) benefits can also be availed.
Shri Prabhakar Kukde then discussed various technologies available to harness the solar power like the Photo-Voltaic (PV) & the Solar Thermal.
The PV panels are well established. But the PV power is costliest, and storage is also costly. On the Solar thermal side there are mainly three technologies. The Trough technology has been most widely used throughout the world. The Solar Tower technology is comparatively cheaper and is also establishing itself. The dish with Sterling Engine is also picking up.
Shri Gadkari took keen interest in the subject and enquired whether smaller dishes with 5 KW sterling engines can be made available to farmers at affordable price.
Distinguished guests like Shri Dive, Shri Viswas Pathak, Shri Uday Kamat, Shri Nikhil Gadkari asked very keen questions about various aspects of the solar power.
It was established that a 10 MW - 20MW solar Thermal Plant can be established near Talegaon. The project will need about 40 Hector. Of land.
The discussions after the presentation lasted well over two hours and were followed by a vote of thanks by Shri Prabhakar Kukde.
